Pupil Attitudes

In June 2016 we conducted a survey to find out what our pupils thought of their school. Each child filled in a tick box sheet deciding whether they agreed or disagreed to a number of statements about Sutton School.

The results can be found below:

Pupils were asked a series of questions and given post-it notes to respond – they were encouraged to write what they ‘Love, Dislike and would like to Change’.

The children felt happy, safe and cared for.

Dislike:

  • ‘I do feel safe except when the fire alarm goes off, then I feel a little bit worried’
  • ‘I dislike wet play because I don’t get to run around’
  • ‘I dislike wet play because there is no toys’

The fire alarm and lack of wet play toys were mentioned.

Change:

  • ‘I don’t want changes’
  • ‘Change the trim trail’
  • ‘I think we could change things about playtime, because we could have an area where school parliament would sit once a week, for pupils to come and give their ideas to them’
  • ‘I am satisfied and don’t want change’
  • ‘To have a fence around the storytelling seat and a stage next to it’
  • ‘I think we should swap literacy round with maths’

       Most children who wrote in this category said that they did not want change anything.

 

Stream Class

Things Stream Class love:

  • The RE area in our classroom ‘It makes me feel happy and safe.’
  • Trips to the village hall and ford
  • All the toys ‘We have lots of fun.’
  • The teachers are kind to me
  • The teachers have good listening ears!
  • The role play area house
  • All the reading books in school especially the grown up books!
  • It’s a friendly school
  • Being with the older children at lunch
  • The climbing frames
  • The computer and Beebots

 

Stream class had no dislikes!

Things Stream Class would like to change:

  • Have lunch on their own
  • Have a slide
  • Have a swimming pool
  • Have a ‘super side.’ When someone has been on the Sunny side lots in a week they can go on the Super Side

As one person said they liked lunch with the older children and one said they would like it separate they had a vote. The class was very mixed with half each!
